When Wills become king, how will Diana be called? The King Mother? Princess Diana? Queen Diana? HRH the Princess of Wales?

Good Question! I have no idea. But Prince William did told Diana shortly before the divorce that when he become a King, he will give her full title back..

If William had given her back her title, she would have been known as "HRH, Diana, Princess of Wales"-but not THE Princess of Wales, because that title would be reserved for the wife of William's oldest son once he was invested as the Prince of Wales.

There is no such title as "King Mother". The title of "Queen Mother" was created for and used by the late QM in preference to the title of "Queen Dowager". The use of "Queen" in that title was not a reference to Elizabeth II, but rather the QM's own former status as a Queen Consort.

Interesting! I didn't know that even thought 'Queen mother' sound better than 'Queen Dowager'! That doesn't sound very attractive. It also said that, I heard on television not a long ago that we shouldn't called 'Princess Diana'. She should be called 'Princess Charles' as that what the Palace said which to me sound very strange. Princess Charles certainly doesn't suited her.

Yes, that's true - "Princess Diana" is incorrect. Usually, only a person born to the title can put it in front of their name, and then, it is formally THE Princess Whomever. The Queen could create someone a Prince or Princess-but as far as I know, it's never actually been done.

Diana was technically Princess Charles, because the title of Prince was his-although that was never used, because the Wales title took precedence over it. For that matter, Fergie would have been called Princess Andrew, if not for the York title, which took precedence.

The whole title thing is all very complex and confusing-which is probably why the press and the public just stuck with Princess Diana. Very Happy

Yeah, it's very complex and confusing! Even thought, I still find it very confusing! But 'Princess Diana' suited her the best. Very Happy
