BABY MYSTERY: But tests will show if Diana was pregnant SOME details surrounding the death of Princess Diana may never be made public, because they are “too personal”.
But we will learn whether she was pregnant when she died, the man heading the inquiry into the 1997 Paris car crash that claimed her life has revealed.
The news follows last week’s exclusive Sunday Express revelation that Lord Stevens has ordered tests on samples of the Princess’s blood that will settle the mystery of whether she was carrying Dodi Al Fayed’s baby.
Yesterday former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Stevens revealed he may question Prince Philip as part of his £ 2million inquiry. He said: “We have not interviewed Prince Philip yet. We have yet to make a decision on it, and if there is a reason to do so, we will.”
Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, owner of Harrods, has always refused to believe that the crash was an accident, persistently claiming that the couple were assassinated by MI6 or security forces unknown; and that Prince Philip – “the most wicked of men”, according to Al Fayed’s website – masterminded the conspiracy.
He believes that Diana was pregnant and was killed by British agents to prevent her from embarrassing the Royal Family by marrying Dodi or having his child.
In a newspaper interview Lord Stevens said his team “had to investigate every conspiracy theory and rumour to prove or disprove them. We’re not just looking at an incident in a tunnel in Paris. We’re looking at that, and beyond all that.”
He added: “Some highly personal details, some physical characteristics – I’m trying to put things in a sensitive way here – will not be revealed. They must not come out.
“It won’t affect the conclusion, but the public will find out [the truth about] the question of pregnancy, as they will other issues, in due course. However, some things are just too personal in terms of the evidence.”
The Stevens team are currently waiting for the results of forensic tests on the crash vehicle – being taken apart bolt by bolt in a laboratory in Camberley, Surrey – as well as for answers to some “ other issues”.
Lord Stevens likened the huge media interest in the investigation to the intense speculation about conspiracy plots surrounding the murder of US President John F Kennedy and film star Marilyn Monroe’s mysterious suicide.
He said: “The press see it in the same light as the deaths of JFK and Marilyn Monroe.
“Make no mistake about it – it is news around the world. People are watching and waiting to see what conclusions we come up with, so the thoroughness of the investigation is very, very important. We must do it absolutely right.”
Lord Stevens expects to give his completed report to Royal Coroner Michael Burgess in August, and an inquest into the deaths will be held next year. _________________ Diana, Princess of Wales is and always will be The People's Princess.
